Bamboo Workshop with Takayuki Shimizu | Press Release

Rujak Center for Urban Studies along with Noesa, Alun-Alun Indonesia dan Asia Center Japan Foundation hold a bamboo workshop with Japanese bamboo artist, Takayuki Shimizu. This workshop held in di Alun-Alun, Grand Indonesia on 20 August 2015. The main goal of this workshop is to provide a basic understanding about bamboo craft and how to make a bamboo basket.

Takayuki Shimizu, born in 1979, in Osaka (Japan). It is outside Japan that Shimizu realized the beauty of bamboo craft during trips in Southeast Asia, India and Nepal. Back to Japan, he followed a training at the Oita Prefectural Bamboo Craft and Training Support Center and he spent four years under the direction of the bamboo master, Mr Jin Morigami, to deepen his skills and knowledge. He became independent in 2007 and he is now based in Tokyo and Beppu (Oita prefecture). Both internationally and in Japan, he wants to raise public awareness towards traditional and new trends of bamboo craft. Shimizu features amongst the pioneers of the new bamboo craft.
